Robert Earl Johnson

Mr. Robert Earl Johnson of 2075 James Holder Road, Lumpkin, Georgia, passed away on April 19, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at New St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Richland, Georgia. The burial will follow in the Baldwin Family Cemetery, Lumpkin, Georgia.

Public visitation will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M.

Family Hour for family and friends will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Mr. Robert Earl Johnson was born on September 12, 1952 in Powhatan County, Virginia to the late Ms. Leatha M. Johnson and the late Mr. Willie E. "Boot" Thornton. Robert passed from this life on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Georgia.

Robert Earl was a lifelong resident of Stewart County after his family returned from Virginia. He was educated in the Stewart County School System and was a proud member of the Lumpkin High School Class of 1970. On August 21, 1971, he was united in holy matrimony to his high school sweetheart, Mrs. Bertha E. Moses Johnson and three children were born to this union. To provide for his growing family, Robert worked throughout the county in the forestry and manufactured home industries. He was employed by the Stewart County Board of Education for over twenty years in maintenance and as a bus driver. Prior to the deterioration of his health, he was employed by the Stewart Detention Center assisting with its construction and maintenance. Having accepted Christ at an early age, he was active as a youth in the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church and the Mt. Airy Baptist Church. Later in life, he connected with the Allen Chapel Community Church, Lumpkin, Georgia.

His loving parents, Rev. Eugene and Mrs. Leatha M. Johnson Baldwin, preceded him in death.

Remaining to cherish and celebrate his life are his devoted and beloved wife of forty years, Mrs. Bertha E. Johnson, Lumpkin, Georgia; children, SSG William K. (Joann) Johnson, Ft. Stewart, Georgia, Mrs. Jill D. (Daniel) Anderson, Americus, Georgia, and Mrs. Pamela E. (Darryl) Jones, Lumpkin, Georgia; grandchildren, Tanaisha L. Clark, JaMeia S. (Rahsaan) Ruch, and Jeremiah A. Anderson; great-grandchildren, Deona Clark, Cedric Clark, Jr., and A*Shariya Ruch; siblings, Mrs. Faye (Kevin) Martin, Buffalo, New York, Mr. Jeffrey L. (Katie) Baldwin, College Park, Georgia, Mr. Lawrence E. (Gwendolyn) Baldwin, Roswell, Georgia, Mrs. Karen D. (Lewis) Callaway, Ellenwood, Georgia, Mr. Willie J. Thornton, Mr. Eddie J. Thornton, Mr. Daniel Thornton, Mrs. Theresa (Harold) Thornton, Mrs. Ida *Honey* (Dean) Hassell, and Mr. Derrick Barron, all of Chicago, Illinois, and Major Larry (Jackolyn) Waye, Havelock, North Carolina; aunts, Ms. Pauline Williams, Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Doris Tarver and Mrs. Willie Ann (King) Robinson, Richland, Georgia, Mrs. Sherry (Theodore) Forrest, Lansing, Michigan, and Mrs. Sadie Easterling, Chicago, Illinois; uncles, Mr. Tommie L.
